Processing Plan for the Eileen Bonner Papers and Memorabilia

Completed by Amanda Partridge; 2018

Collection Name: The Eileen Bonner Papers and Memorabilia

Accession Date: 1994

Records Creator: Eileen Bonner

Volume: ~7.5 cubic feet

Dates: 1945-2010

Language: English

Scope and Content: The collection documents some of the many achievements of Eileen Bonner’s life as a nurse and member of the military. There are numerous awards, certificates and medals that highlight the varied accomplishments of Eileen. It, also includes uniforms from her time in the military and an old nurses cap from her early days in the Nurses Cadet Corps. Memorabilia, such as pamphlets, brochures and programs, from events she attended and to mark anniversaries of important moments in military nursing history are also included. There are photos and some personal correspondence and college papers she had written. Also, includes campaign materials from her run as President of the Reserve Officers Association.

The previously processed materials in this collection included manuals and other teaching materials, books and some more memorabilia.

Current Arrangement: There is no clear arrangement, with the exception of Eileen’s old school papers which were collected together in a plastic bag. Boxes contain a mix of materials. Some records are in unmarked envelopes but there seems to be no recognizable reason for this arrangement. There are duplicates of some of the memorabilia.

Proposed Level of Processing: As there is little to no clear original order and many of the items are boxed haphazardly without folders or other ways of separating materials, this will need to be a part of the processing. The processing level in some cases will have to be at the folder or likely at the item level. Textiles will need to be separately boxed as well as the plaques and framed materials.

Proposed Arrangement Scheme: Initially, it looks as there may be four series. Biographical and personal correspondence (including photos), textiles, memorabilia, and awards and medals. Biographical and personal may best be arranged alphabetically. Textiles will be stored together and do not lend themselves to an arrangement. Memorabilia should be arranged by subject based on what organization they are commemorating. Finally awards, medals and patches should be boxed together.

Proposed Level of Description: This collection would benefit with having a biographical note.  The textiles and 3-D materials should have an item-level description. Other than that, a series level description it appropriate.

Current Condition: Materials seem to be in good condition.

Conservation/Preservation Needs: Photographs and old nurses cap

Possible Restriction: None

Supplies: 40-50 acid free folders. 6 Acid-free boxes and some over-sized boxes for the plaques and awards.

Time: 20 hours needed to process. This is a very rough estimate.
